DC isolator switches are a great way to disconnect your solar system from everything else. They can be used during maintenance tasks, when you need access and caution for one component but not others in the circuit at that time.
The DC isolator switch is placed in the vehicle’s electrical system:
- To decouple solar panels from the charge controller.
- To decouple batteries from the system.
When you buy a DC isolator switch, make sure it matches up with your system’s current and voltage. For example, the solar disconnect switches from our panels can handle lower currents but higher voltages while battery-powered ones need higher amperage yet still remain within an appropriate range depending on what kind of cells they’re hooked into.
The circuit breakers are not the best option for disconnecting power. You should always buy an isolator switch with higher voltage and current at a specific point in your system. This will allow you to connect multiple motors without interruption when under load, which makes it perfect for doing things.
